Accademia Gallery & the Best of Florence Tour – From marble to magnificence...
We begin this tour at Piazza della Signoria, the vibrant hub of Florence. This piazza is not only full with bars and restaurants, it also plays host to many renowned statues and sculptures that makes Florence the city it is today, and has been for hundreds of years. The fascinating history of this piazza, it's sculptures, renaissance era 'palazzos' and flowing fountains is brought to life by our knowledgeable and experienced local Florentine guide. The Loggia dei Lanzi is also situated in Piazza della Signoria; with its wide gothic arcades, it too is filled with magnificent pieces of works that has amazed visitors for centuries.
Heading down the small Renaissance streets we make our way to Ponte Vecchio. With its stunning views, it has spanned over the Arno River since medieval times and has since been a centre of trade, and focal point of artisan’s workshops. Ponte Vecchio today still houses some of Florence’s most famous goldsmiths and jewelers who's work and traditions have passed the test of time.
We now make our way back into the heart of Florence on route to the most famous Cathedral in town; Santa Maria Del Fiore, or better known as, 'Il Duomo'. Just before arriving at the Duomo we will have the chance to see Florence’s famous Baptistery with the amazing bronze doors that were dubbed my no other than Michelangelo as, “the gates to paradise”.
'Il Duomo'; Florence’s imposing and architecturally stunning cathedral boasts the 4th largest dome in the world. This artistic delight is an engineering wonder with so much to see (and so much that can be missed), we make sure to reveal this cathedral in all it's glory, inside and out.
The last stop on this tour is the Academia Gallery which is also situated in the heart of the city. Our guide provides invaluable insight into some of the world’s greatest works of art produced by the most celebrated artists of their day. This gallery is most popular for holding Michelangelo’s David. Many replicas are scattered throughout the city but none compare to the original colossal work of art done by the master himself. There is no better way to beat the crowds and see this magnificent statue than with one of our private guides.
After the tour you will have the opportunity to stay in the Accademia Gallery to explore a bit further, or join the guide out of the gallery for some great suggestions on restaurants, wine bars and gelaterias near by.
